Blur and David Bowie

Maybe it would be fun to find the moments in Blur songs that couldn't have existed without the influence of David Bowie? Just throwin' that out there. Honestly, there are likely way too many to even really attempt to count 'em, but...I remember when MLIR came out, thinking "damn, so much Bowie (and ...

Re: Don't Bomb When You're the Bomb

I always thought it sounded not entirely unlike "Bird Wood Cage"-era The Wolfgang Press, perhaps a bit like "Raintime":

Re: The 'definitive' Think Tank

It's pretty amazing how revisionist Damon is being about "Think Tank"; he straight up said it wasn't a Blur album in that radio interview the other day. He called it a "Lur" or "Blu" album. They all laughed, but you could tell they were in agreement that it bears the name Blur but doesn't sit proper...

Re: B-Sides

One I've re-visited recently is I Know, and I think it's fantastic! It hardly gets talked about, but it's this great little psychedelic track with a stellar bass line, good harmonies, spacy guitar riffs and dancey drums! I've no idea why it's so ferociously ignored. Actually, "She's So High" and "I...

"Fade Away" and "Eve's Volcano"?

Anyone ever noticed the similarity of elements of Julian Cope's "Eve's Volcano" and bits of "Fade Away" off TGE? I was just listening to the "Saint Julian" album for the first time in ages (after reading the amazingly weird autobiography of Julian Cope, which I recommend for those with an appetite f...

Re: What do you think of the new Blur song, 'Go Out'?

Excellent write up Pyneapple, is that you Mr Street? ;) Nah, just an oldtyme Blur fan since 1992. I've been here and there on the Blur forums and this one, I just hadn't made a new account here since Veikko switched to a new forum, so I finally made one the other day! I used to be on the ol' Blur e...

Re: What do you think of the new Blur song, 'Go Out'?

Also, as far as I'm aware, the band hasn't called "Go Out" a single, at least not explicitly. Releasing it the way they did ensures it gets crazy amounts of attention, though, so in essence it can't help but function in the same capacity a true "single" would.

Re: What do you think of the new Blur song, 'Go Out'?

Hi all. My take, for what it's worth: They didn't particularly enjoy being popstars when they were in the true "popstar" phase of their career. It did their heads in. They don't want that anymore, and Damon gets what he needs in that realm from Gorillaz anyway. Plus, he just doesn't really *do* Brit...
