Re: Franz Ferdinand

*huge bump*

A bit late to the party, but I finally got to listening to their latest album, and I must say, it's bloody fantastic! I think FF might just be one of the most underrated bands out there.

Orbit's Under the Westway

Am I the only one who enjoys this? Yes, the auto-tune is over-the-top and unnecessary, but I really like the song structure and instrumentation.

Re: Damon's voice through the years

Sometimes his vocals on certain songs during the early to mid 90s annoy me. Like, on For Tomorrow for example. I have no idea why he's trying to do that high-pitched, childish voice. It completely ruins the song for me. Also Brett Anderson from Suede used to do it as well back in the day. Listen to ...

Re: Likelihood of another Blur record

the now now has some ok moments but overall it just sounds like missed production opportunities. I'd be interested to hear more but only if there is less radio effect on everything. I think the production on The Now Now is top notch. Yes, the overuse of the radio effect annoys some people, but it d...

Re: Likelihood of another Blur record

I don't think Damon is interested in recording another Blur record. We all know how The Magic Whip came about. It was all Graham. Without his persistence, nothing would have happened.

Re: GORILLAZ: The Now Now Album Thread

Lake Zurich is a top instrumental piece. Gorillaz instrumentals are always so good. Just think of Double Bass, Film Music, 68 State and Glitter Freeze. All great tracks.

Re: GORILLAZ: The Now Now Album Thread

That’s strange. Where I live the studio versions are the most well known for, and what they played on the radio and on TV at the time.

I had never heard of the Clint Eastwood remix until I bought the album. But I knew the 19/2000 remix from the FIFA game.

You can't beat that melody, that chorus and those fantastic rap verses. For me it's the true definition of a masterpiece.

Re: GORILLAZ: The Now Now Album Thread

I guess Gorillaz are not mainstream anymore. But it's to be expected given the lack of hits. Clint Eastwood, Feel Good Inc. and DARE elevated the first two albums in terms of radio play.

Re: GORILLAZ: The Now Now Album Thread

Souk Eye 7/10 - Nice vocal melody, but the arrangement plays it 'too safe'. What's that supposed to mean? It feels a tad bit repetitive and generic - something that I've heard before. The ending of the song reminds me of "The Time Is Now" by Moloko. https://youtu.be/-GY9DWIfpwc?t=3m1s I think the a...

Re: Marks out of 10 for Now Now

8/10 - I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. Solid record with no bad tracks in it. Humanz - 7/10. I liked it, but the many, many collaborations made it an estranged Gorillaz record. The Magic Whip - 8/10. It might not be Blur's best album, but I really enjoyed it. The whole anticipation of a...
