Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

Yes, I hesitate to say that there was any loss of potency, though I tend to judge it by top ten single success.

The 91/93/94/95/97/99 run of Blur albums is simply amazing, Gorillaz and the rest of it comes nowhere near.
I agree about the run of Blur albums, but the first two Gorillaz albums and 'Happiness In Magazines' by Graham were also very good.

Re: The Beatles Thread

I like Paul, but to be polite, he is now looking and sounding his age  , in comparison to e.g. Mick Jagger who seems to be wearing the years quite well.

Re: 1994 US Tour

I think that Blur had plenty to be going on with in the UK in autumn 1994, and a prolonged north American tour would have been a distraction.

Re: Blur - The Magic Whip

Yes, in the original run of albums, or certainly up to '13', Blur were the main thing happening at the time.

Re: Blur - The Magic Whip

Just played it again the other day, and it seems to stand up very well in comparison to the original (1991-2003) run of albums.

Pavlich - interesting point about why doesn't Graham release a 'normal solo album'. And I agree with Doug's assessment of the reasons why.

I do love the sound of Graham's voice on these big melancholic songs.
Yes, I also like Graham's backing vocals - they give songs an edge.

Re: Papa Roach cover Song 2

Joe Dolan was a very popular show-type singer, esp. in his native Ireland for many years, and in the UK in the late-60s. He had the big productions of the time, with swinging MOR songs in the mould of Tom Jones - check out e.g. 'You're Such A Good Looking Woman' (1970). Interesting to hear of his ve...

Yes I agree, it is hard to process. You can compare it to being in 1990 and looking back to Adam Faith or The Shadows starting their careers.

P.S. Themongoose87 - I agree about the woman riding the hippo.... :P :D

Re: The Jaded Hearts Club

I bought this on the day of release, on a CD from good-old HMV.

I quite like it in parts, but it does seem like a functional run-through of classic songs.
