Re: The Beatles Thread

Yes I know that the 16/06/66 TOTP is considered a 'Beatles Holy Grail', because it was the only time they performed live in the TOTP studio. But it is a mere 11 seconds of silent cine camera footage. I don't doubt the significance of it, but I find the other recently discovered footage just as inter...

Re: BLUR LIVE @ Africa Express: The Circus!

I think Blur may always be up for playing together - always the possibility of future recordings and tours.

Re: The return of SLEEPER!

Great to see them in good form, on and off stage.

True pros dealing with a car accident and family illness - hopefully these things will be OK.

Re: Upcoming Mansun reissues

Good luck to him. Many other 90s acts are having a second wind in recent times.

Re: France yellow vest protests

I don't think that politicians from any party, in any country, are comfortable about 'Brexit'. They see themselves as the power that decides things. It has pulled the rug from under their feet - they didn't expect the UK electorate to vote out. The EU will want the French protests kept quiet - they ...

Re: Talk Talk Thread

Yes and I thank Talk Talk leading me onto Blur and the indie scene as I bought the best of Talk Talk in 1990 (my first time I discovered them) and it led me away from mainstream pop (I bought Jive Bunny in 1989!)... A lot of people bought Jive Bunny in 1989, and their records got played to death on...

Re: Beach Boys Thread

Yes, the amount of records he played on was quite something.

They were playing some on BBC 6Music yesterday. At the time I was listening, these included the 'Batman' TV theme, and 5th Dimension 'Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In'.

Re: RIP Keith Flint

James blunt's tweet was brilliant. Ouch!! https://mobile.twitter.com/JamesBlunt/status/1102642930207113216 Yes, I didn't care for James Blunt's hit singles (apart from one) but that it is an enlightening quote from him. He represented 'shopping mall' music which is probably why the Gallaghers, Damo...

Re: RIP Keith Flint

A really sad day. I remember 'Charly' being released whilst I was at college and starting the whole 'Toytown Techno' scene - of course, nothing else came near it (apart from 'Summers Magic). :? I don't think I've heard the genre name 'Toytown Techno' before - was it used at the time? However, I lik...

Re: RIP Keith Flint

Well, in theory I was more into EMF, Blur, Primal Scream, The Shamen etc in that period, but I also bought the first two Prodigy albums. I liked them, and they remain evocative of their period. 'Charly' was interesting, but by and large a typical rave record, but the immediacy of the single 'Everybo...

Re: Talk Talk Thread

Good points Sledge Hammer - I also think their music was at the wrong time in the later 80s.

The melodic, thoughtful songs would have fitted in better with e.g. the mid 90s-early 2000s.

Re: The return of SLEEPER!

I liked them a lot. The singles were immediate for the time, though the album tracks could be a less invigorating listen - as dparrot mentions, they could slip into a kind of generic indie, but so did many other acts. As with Neal Zeal, I overlooked the third album - indie/Britpop was taking a sudde...
