Re: Idea for Damon and Jamie

Yeah. A solo album is a great idea and would be really fun. They will have chewed it over. I think they were probably stopped from making The Now Now a 2D album by Warner. I think that record deal is up now, so they may be more flexible from now on.

Hidden references to Damon in Brett Anderson's Coal Black Mornings

I’m a fan of Suede, and Brett’s autobiography got great reviews so I got round to reading it. He describes Justine Frischmann as one of the two great loves of his life, and mentions how she stayed in Suede for 6 months after they broke up. Damon is never mentioned as the cause of the break up (Damon...

Re: Happiness in Magazines turns 15

Lovely album. One way or another someone (Stephen Street?) convinced Graham to make a proper accessible solo album and give it a promotional shove. Freakin Out in particular is absolutely superb.

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Live Performances Thread

Saw the band at Glastonbury. Damon spoke quite coherently about Brexit. He can't always be trusted to express himself properly on the microphone, so that was good. I noticed Damon and the band in general getting a kicking on Twitter. I agree that a few of the songs just sound pretty weird - 1917 for...

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Album Thread

Releasing four songs at once was the dumbest thing they could have done. Seriously stupid. No clear single. And Hallelujah Money as the first song to drop months before the album? Terrible. I'm not sure what the timing of Hallelujah Money was about. It appeared to be a dig at Trump. Fair enou...

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Album Thread

I disagree on Gorillaz. When it came to the live shows, yes, they were handled and covered well. But both albums were handled badly. Very much like Merrie Land right now. No-one is talking about it, absolutely no-one. The same can't be said if you go back 14 years to Demon Days. EVERYONE was talkin...

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Album Thread

It seems like Damon is the only one who likes his management. Does he just not realize? Or just not care? I mean, none of us know the inner-workings of it all, but I think it's telling when every fan I know hates Eleven. And I got my tickets in too, Mark72! Can't wait for the Palladium!! I also got...

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Live Performances Thread

Great gig in Glasgow last night. Damon apologized for the number of references to England, Paul said "we're all on the same island". Paul's bass is really high in the mix but he plays brilliantly - as a big Clash fan, I don't know why this still slightly surprises me. Gun to the Head already sounds ...

I have 2 spares for TGTBATQ in Glasgow on Sunday

Hello all I have 2 spares for the Glasgow gig, I have them on Twickets for £20 each but honestly I would be happy to give them away if there's any mega fans here who don't have ones. Merry Christmas and all that!

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Album Thread

Yes indeed, I listened to Roger Daltry last week on Alec Baldwin's "here's the thing" podcast, and he kept talking about the "algorithm" of The Who, and how they found it so difficult to replace Keith Moon after he died. There are a couple of songs on Merrie Land where I think the band sounds plain ...

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Album Thread

I doubt Damon has any interest whatsoever in where this album charts. Am a bit surprised by the performance as it felt like the debut album had built up a pretty big cult following. But let's face it a lot of Clash fans are not about anymore and I wouldn't expect US Gorillaz fans to "get" this proje...

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Album Thread

Keep in mind the management company Damon uses. Not exactly organised. Yeah this is probably the worst of the lot. Weirdly this album, the first, has ended up pretty well known and very well liked online. Five years ago it never popped up but as soon as it was asked about by fans and talked about b...

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Live Performances Thread

I like the words of Merrie Land but as a song I don't think it's in the same class as the likes of Herculean. Not an inspiring first choice. Hope the rest of the album is better. Didn't think the Jools performance was great. As a barometer - Twitter response was pretty lukewarm.

Re: Out of time, under the radar...

Out of Time is a nice song, but definitely a more minor work. I recall it getting decent airplay on Radio 1 at the time. It was 4 years after 13 and that was probably too big a gap. There may be some unusual orchestration in the background but I don't think it was anywhere near as jarring as the chu...
