Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

The Magic Whip was an unexpected treat but I think it was mixed - Go Out, Lonesome Street are retro souding and unfortunately banal songs. I loved Ong Ong, My Terracotta Heart, Pyongyang, and Ghost Ship. Overall Demon Days, Plastic Beach and the first TGTBATQ are better albums than The Magic Whip. B...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

Overall if Gorillaz could redo this project I'd hope they would have made three different choices Release the album much earlier. The 'singles' would have got similar streams had they been released after the album than before (the Last Chord will be overtaking both Strange Timez and Friday 13th thi...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

A numbers comparison. In a previous post I highlighted of how despite the Song Machine songs not being super successful on youtube, the project itself was beneficial for their catalogue with all their songs getting a push with new releases. I was curious about its performance on Spotify but did not...

Mr Brightside over 1 billion streams...crazy. I imagine it's been taken into another generation of emotional youths that don't understand their feelings
I'm a wedding DJ (in UK). It's an unbelievably huge song!

Re: Girls and Boys reaches 100 million milestone on Spotify

I've mentioned this elsewhere but Ghost Ship tends to get a play if you let Spotify play on, choosing the songs. Somehow a bias must be shown towards it by Spotify. Imo it's a great song and miles better than Go Out, or Lonesome Street. The guitar playing is wonderful and it's a very strong melody. ...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

Thanks again. fascinating stuff. Yes i meant to mention that Humility was backed by Beats and also - I think - Casio. I had been on holiday in LA and walked along Venice Beach just 3 weeks before the video came out. I must have just missed Jamie and co. Frustrating :-) For me, its a bland song, but ...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

Thanks so much @idreamofpikas, i love seeing these numbers. Is the overall success of The Now Now attributable in part to the live shows driving views and streams? I can understand Saturn Barz being so big. I don't think its a terrific song but the video was obviously expensive and very fun and also...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine Tour 2020-2021

I would love to know how the numbers stacked up for them in terms of viewers and revenue, must have cost a lot to stage. According to a spokesperson, over one million viewers in more than 120 countries tuned in across the three different livestreams, which featuring a pioneering mix of animation an...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine Tour 2020-2021

Have just caught up with it. Spectacular stuff. Pink Phantom into Opium was special. Didn't see Dracula or Sweetie Irie coming. Great to hear the remix acknowledged at last, as it was played everywhere and was the foundation for success. I would love to know how the numbers stacked up for them in te...

That was great thanks. I wouls like to think he will Zoom Graham at some point soon!
No danger John
Ah why do you say "no danger". Are they not on a Zoom Chat level of friendship. Surely they are - Graham turning up onstage at Demon Dayz etc.

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

Just to say I've got my ticket for the Sunday show. Not sure I will actually get time to watch it but I like to support the chaps, it sounds like they're trying something interesting here.

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine Tour 2020-2021

Has anyone got a ticket for Song Machine Live? The timings aren't totally convenient for me, so not sure if I will bother. I asusme it will appear somewhere else pretty soon after. Gorillaz have "form" for that.

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I assume the album status of it is pretty unclear. You can't talk up an episodic songs season in January but expect to be on ene dof year album lists.

I would expect Aries, Momentray Bliss and/or Pink Phantom to make end of year song lists.

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

My god, I'm in love with the bonus tracks. Perhaps Simplicity is the only track I don't care that much about, but even that has its moments. The production and instrumentation on this album is amazing. And all the guest appearances are spot on. Damon's done it. Simplicity is now my favourite of the...
