Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I think The Now Now got a lot of uncalled shtick. It was obviously something in the line of The Fall. That being said, I think it could have been better produced. For instance, Tranz is a fantastic song that suffers a lot from very minimalistic production. Take the live version, it has so much ener...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I do have to admit that I need to listen more to them. I can see Désolé growing on me. Got to say I really like Désolé reminds me a lot of his Mali Music album and would certainly be one of the better songs on there - I really like that aspect of Damon's work, although I don't know nearly enough ab...

Re: Reykjavik tips?

Many thanks folks. I've a Northern Lights tour booked for the first night (fingers crossed), Golden Circle tour booked, and also a trip to the Blue Lagoon (very excited about that). Superb you'll have a great time I'm sure. Should you feel inspired to check out the formerly/possibly currently part ...

Re: Beetlebum: reaction at the time

Release near start of January was a definite tactic and subsequently copied by the likes of the Manic Street Preachers to great effect (think they got two NO. 1s that way). Whoever worked on Blur's releases was pretty switched on (see also the 2 CD singles for Country House which gave a huge advant...

Re: Does anyone know who compiled Blur: The Best Of?

Whilst I agree with many of those choices Putting Lonesome Street in or Ong Ong feels entirely wrong to me. I'm not really sure Blur have released enough since the last 2 compilations to justify another greatest hits set and in the days of streaming I'm not sure there's that much demand for it.

Re: Beetlebum: reaction at the time

I wouldn't say there was a backlash to Beetlebum as such, but Blur definitely featured less heavily in a lot of sections of the pop-centric media following that, unclear if by design or a rejection from the mainstream or a bit of both. I remember the NME (or possibly Melody Maker) claiming it was de...

Re: Reykjavik tips?

I went about 18 months back and loved Reykjavik, it's a very very small city though and can easily be explored in an afternoon. I'm sure you will already have heard this but it is very expensive I would guess if you are travelling in a few weeks days will be a "normal" length. If you need groceries ...

Re: new Gorillaz film - Reject False Icons

Someone on Instagram said they brought a six year old to see it. For those whom have seen it, is it really appropriate for a six year old? I can image loads of “F” bombs being thrown around. Just curious. Is it like Bananaz? I actually enjoyed that film. I’ll get it whenever it’s released on DVD/Bl...

Re: new Gorillaz film - Reject False Icons

I enjoyed it, but as per many of the reviews it doesn't really say or do anything much as a film in it's own rights. My enjoyment came more from reminiscing about going to a handful of their gigs and feeling the genuine love from the audience. Would really struggle to recommend it to anyone who isn'...

Re: alex james in trouble!

Superb Labour nearly wiped out, and what a disaster they are left with...get that schoolyard yob Angela Rayner in as leader the comedy will be excellent. 100 year old labour seats, even they saw through Corbyns ridic monopoly money freebies and giveaways...well done Alex, and don't let the rabid ha...

Re: alex james in trouble!

For once in my life I relax and I think to myself 'well look, it's a political thread but everyone's discussing things quite nicely and there's some spirited debate and it's not REALLY about Alex at this point but who cares?' And then a comment about Fat Les triggers all this off?! Folding, I...

Re: alex james in trouble!

More people = more gdp, more people contributing to taxes, more money for the NHS. In theory anyway. If you have anyone to blame for NHS it's an aging population, not immigration. At the risk of taking this further off topic, we could look at the fact the NHS has lost 17,000 beds since 2010, but cl...

Re: alex james in trouble!

Ok so Labour spout on abot nhs waiting lists, oversized classrooms etc, the population of this country goes up a million every couple of years...so none of this will be sustainable in 10 to 20 years how ever much money they throw at it...so what is Labour's policy on immigration... THERE ISN'T ONE....
