Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I agree, that is not the only factor. This might be unpopular, but Damon was probably more interested in working with Tony Allen and Paul Simonson on a project than he was with Dave and Alex . Tony and Paul are (or I should say were RIP Tony) full time musicians. 50% of Blur stopped being full time...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

No. The sad truth is that there are not as many people interested in hearing a Blur album than there is a Gorillaz album. Damon's songs and ideas will reach more people if he uses Gorillaz as his outlet. I'd love a new Blur album, but that would only interest Blur fans and hardcore Gorillaz fans. N...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

And another possible slight format tweak for those who care about the artwork, according to my local independent they are offering the double CD with "alternate sleeve". Unclear if this is an indie store exclusive, or if it's merely that the deluxe and standard have different covers...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I'm guessing the CD included with the Almanac is likely to be the standard version of the album?

EDIT: Just found a description from the Gorillaz store (via google as couldn't find it on the site) The Almanac CD is described as

"Season One of Song Machine

10 tracks

Available October 2020"

Re: Don't bomb when you are the bomb

Nah, it was trailed in the press weeks before it came out. I was away in New York at the time and had time to prime an ex-girlfriend to get up at 4am in the morning and go and queue for it outside Resident Records in Brighton. Agree it was a limited release for Record Store Day and thus not a conve...

Re: Blur fan first and foremost or Damon Albarn fan?

Definitely Blur first and foremost, but I suspect this might well be something where age is a big factor. Damon's other projects I find hit and miss, I will always give them a go (both Damon and Graham's other projects) and give it more opportunity than other artists, thinking Thom Yorke, James Dean...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

Just listened to Pac-man and really enjoyed it, great video too (have they given up on telling a longer narrative story these days?) I thought Damon's vocals were actually the weakest part. Actually, I really like damon's vocals, doing all those little noises he did back on the first gorillaz album...

I really like Fools Day, no idea why it's not on spotify.
Guessing originally because it was for RSD, then largely forgotten about afterwards by the public in general

I think Bang is the most underrated Blur song ever. That, or Music Is My Radar.
Fools Day for my money, an understated classic that's largely forgotten

Re: Is The Great Escape the worst Blur album?

Not for me. Think Tank for me is their worst album. I find it almost unlistenable apart from Out of Time. It's got bits I love - On the Way to the Club, Me White Noise, OOT, Good Song, Battery in Your Leg (i love Gene by Gene too but thats a small minority). Plenty I'll skip too, Morroccan..., Brot...

Re: B-Roads

Wait, so the author of an unauthorised Blur book got a copy of this film that's so hard to find, the band didn't even have it to use for their own documentary? Clearly digital rips exist. We live in boring times. It would be very nice to have the last few select members of this forum all DMed for a...

Re: B-Roads

I've always found it rich indeed that the few who've had access have been so sanctimonious about "protecting the band's reputation" and "honoring the band's wishes" -- but only after watching it themselves, and in some cases (cough, Black Book) even directly profiting off of it. Well, I hope they f...

Re: Courteeners - Tender

They had a good single which I think was called Not Nineteen Forever, can't say as I've heard anything else they've done though, will check out their Tender cover in the morning
