Not that I’m aware of. In my opinion, they really wouldn’t fit.

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Live Performances Thread

I wanted to add to the excellent Glasgow review above with some thoughts. The performance on this tour is a piece of theatre, right down to the eyeshadow. Merrie land is played in full because it cannot be separated. It is a singular piece, a statement, with acts and scenes, yes, but only making sen...

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Live Performances Thread

The Glasgow venue is the SWG3 Galvaniser’s. It used to be a steel and iron galvanising yard but has recently been converted.

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Album Thread

So is it just me who (so far) thinks that Merrie Land is dreary bollocks? Four listens in and it's boring the tits off me. 6/10 at best. Agreed, can barely listen to it. Compare this to "For Tomorrow" a song about England, it's like a million miles away in quality. I used to be excited about new mu...

13 on vinyl

Do you reckon 13 will get a re-release on vinyl this year for the 20 year anniversary?

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Album Thread

I'm beginning to think that there may be some sort if film to go with the album. The last man to leave now has a video clip and apparently it's Albarn behind the mask. Seems a bit extravagant. It’s just the same as the other promo clips for Merrie Land and Gun To The Head. Damon in a puppet suit. L...

The Last Man to Leave preview audio --> https://www.instagram.com/p/BqAvRy5FGKy/ lyrics --> https://www.instagram.com/p/BqAvP6qFvBa/ it's modern life ! sounds like unreleased track from that era! Should have been left unreleased based on that clip. And I hope this isn't an album full of Damon preac...

Re: Damon's voice through the years

I prefer Damon’s voice with the crack and the grit. The first evidence of it is on the ‘Charmless Man’ b-sides like ‘The Man Who Left Himself’ and ‘St Louis Song’ that predicted more of the style that would appear on ‘Blur’. It all feels more natural and a little less ‘forced’. And of course his ran...

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Live Performances Thread

I’m gutted because the gig in Glasgow was initially in a room that holds 450, but it’s since been moved outside to an area that holds 4000!

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Album Thread

Actually, there’s an argument to be made that his music has become more melodically complex while becoming musically more simplified. You can see as his career developed that he has learned to trust his instincts more. Blur’s earlier work is more musicaly ornate in terms of structure, but this takes...

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Album Thread

Right, so it’s programmed elements that you don’t like? I guess it’s all taste. Of course Blur’s music, from the beginning, has featured programmed elements quite prominently.

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Album Thread

I have to admit on the two full songs heard, the bands return is better than expected. As I have already said elsewhere Damon for me in 2018 has nailed it with this and TNN, just needs to spend time in a studio more with other musicians instead of with his IPad. Damon uses an iPad as a compositiona...

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Album Thread

BTW, in case there’s any echoes, Here’s William Blake’s poem, The Poison Tree which deals with repressed anger, vengeance, and tempting people to consume poisoned fruit. I was angry with my friend; I told my wrath, my wrath did end. I was angry with my foe: I told it not, my wrath did grow. And I wa...

Re: TGTBTQ: Merrie Land Album Thread

i love this new stuff. Poison Tree sounds like a real crooner. The other two have a beautiful sense of melancholy and resignation to the uncertainty of what awaits post Brexit. Who will we be? Is the nostalgia for a non-existent Britain past enough to build a future on? I find these songs to be quit...
