Beetlebum: reaction at the time

For those old enough to remember... What was the reaction like when Blur came back after the backlash of TGE and released Beetlebum as the lead single for S/T? It's obviously notably a lot darker in tone and a lot more intimate and personal than the jovial but sarcastic, character based songs they h...

Re: Lyrics for "Hope You Find Your Suburb"?

Never even thought to give this one a listen from start to finish. It almost sounds like it has ideas that would go on to become best days, stereotypes and on my way to the club..

Re: Damon Albarn - The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows

So is he going to release this as well or has it just being put together for live performance?

Re: New track from Gorillaz to premiere on BBC Radio 1 this Thursday

You say it's old hat but then talk about making into an album, I think the format of releasing songs as and when they are made is a much better way of doing things. If they had this approach from Humanz it would have felt like being inundated with new Gorillaz material. Hope it works out for them. ...

Re: New track from Gorillaz to premiere on BBC Radio 1 this Thursday

It's pretty good.. Better than everything on The Now Now. For me personally, I feel the latest phase of Gorillaz has been a bit reckless output wise. Bit of a lack of quality control as a lot of the material lacks depth and purpose if you ask me. I absolutely love the first 3 Gorillaz albums(I see D...

Re: Graham talking about modern life is rubbish

I know i've said this numerous times but the jump from modern life is rubbish to parklife just blows my tiny little mind. And to think it was recorded pretty much back to back, I would love some inside knowledge to how that process happened. Yeah it does seem like a fair jump. One thing that may pa...

Re: Most Oasis sounding Blur song?

Always thought the guitar part to 'She's so high' was a bit like a slowed down version of something Noel would play. Tender is similar to some stuff on the last Oasis album 'Dig out your soul'. Talking purely in terms of style here, not comparing quality of songwriting or anything. Chorus in Bugman ...

Re: new Gorillaz film - Reject False Icons

... Sounds as though it serves as a cool insight for fans of Gorillaz/Damon, but isn't exactly a captivating music documentary beyond that. I'm looking forward to seeing it!

Re: Blur - The Magic Whip

Listened to TMW the other evening for the first time in a good while... I like every track on a surface level but I feel it lacks the emotional and creative depth of other Blur albums. This may be purely circumstantial due to the way in which it came to be, but I feel the songs lack a bit of deliber...

Re: alex james in trouble!

Other than playing in a pop/rock band, Alex has the background, interests and characteristics of someone who would harbor center-right political views. He doesn't really strike me as someone who's much of a creative out-with the context of being the bass player in Blur. He's a careerist media person...

Re: Graham on new blur stuff...

Great read. Graham is such a lovely chap. It's funny how for latter day Blur he is the one who carries the flag most. Back in the mid to late 90s, when it all kicked off, he seemed to portray a bit of ambivalence towards the band being big superstars, before eventually leaving after a few years of r...

Re: The Great Escape

For me it's a snapshot of the time. Wouldn't change a thing, except maybe make the guitars a bit more loose. It sounds too controlled. But that's my opinion now, not 1995. Personally, I prefer the Budokan gig from 95 when listening to TGE era. It seems much more raw and darker. I still can't believ...

Re: Graham on new blur stuff...

...Surely there must be something in the pipeline. Considering how much TMW was concealed, this is quite the hint. Maybe some dates and possibly another Glastonbury headline!? An album is a push, but a run of dates is surely plausible. Mind you, anything planned for next year would need to be announ...
